Why Purina Beneful Dry Dog Food is Killing Your Dog

Wondering what’s in Purina’s Beneful Dry Dog Food? Want to know why it could be killing your dog little by little? Today you’ll find out exactly why Purina Beneful is not the safest food option to feed your dog, and learn what to look out for on dog food labels. Before we begin, please take a moment to pin this to your Dogs board.

Quick story: This past week I have been researching dog food ingredients, spending long hours putting in google searches of “can dogs eat ground yellow corn” and “can dogs eat L-Lysine Monohydrochloride”. It’s not the most fun thing in the world to do, but I want to do it to find out the safest dog food. 😎

Dog food isn’t easy to choose, but commercials on TV and the internet just aren’t always truthful! There’s a flavor of Cesar’s Wet Dog Food that contains carrageenan, which can cause cancer in dogs. 😓

Today I want to help you by warning you of the dangers of feeding your dog Purina Beneful.

Why Purina Beneful Dry Dog Food is Killing your Dog:

The first thing is corn. The first ingredient on the list is Ground Yellow Corn. Corn can be difficult for our dogs to digest and is bad for the skin and coat. It can harm their ability to send serotonin to the brain. Serotonin is important because it helps relieve stress/anxiety. Corn is often used as a cheap dog food filler so they can put less meat, since it is a source of protein. You can give your dogs corn sometimes, but you may not want it in your dog food.

The next thing is chicken by-product meal. This is the leftovers of the chicken after the meat has been taken off, necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, organs, all ground up. Ew.

Next is animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols, which I have been seeing in many dog foods. The animal fat from the manufactured food for pets is not safe for dogs. The mixed-tocopherols are not the problem, they contain E vitamins that can be beneficial.

We also have Soy Flour here. Soy. Is. Bad. It has the highest pesticide residue out of any crop. Soy can interfere with the absorption and use of minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc, it can destroy the thyroid, it can cause seizures, and causes gas formation and bloating in dogs.

Next is sugar, and sugar is a no-no. It can cause Diabetes, Heart disease, respiratory issues, joint problems, weight gain and lethargy.

Then, we have Propylene glycol! It may cause problems with brain activity, metabolism, white blood cells, respiration, cardiovascular function (that’s the heart) the kidneys, the liver and more. Propylene glycol is a common ingredient in antifreeze.

Next is meat and bone meal! Meat and bone meal can be from roadkill, rats, mice, or even euthanized animals! 🤮 It can also contain pus, cancerous tissue, and decomposed tissue. Gross!!

We also have phosphoric acid. It’s not confirmed, but it could reduce bone density in dogs, making their bones weaker.

Then, animal digest. Animal Digest is clean animal tissue that has not been decomposed, usually cooked, and turned into a goopy broth and sprayed on or added to the food.

Next, Purina Beneful has the added color (Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 2). Added color is used in junk dog food and can cause cancer.

Last, we have menadione sodium bisulfite. It’s a synthetic version on vitamin K, not good for long-term use such as dog food. It has been linked to many serious health issues. The substance is toxic to kidneys, lungs, liver, mucous membranes. Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.

There are healthier alternatives to these ingredients, for example, red 40 can be replaced with beets, ground corn can be replaced with real meat (I know it costs more, but it’s better for the dog), and soy flour can be replaced with whole wheat flour, or regular flour.
